About The Artwork
The van Gogh name is synonymous with sunflowers, as most of his later paintings used bright and vivid colours such as yellow the sunflowers were a clear choice for him. His early sunflowers paintings which he created during his time in Paris when he stayed with his brother, were, however, not in a vase but lying on the ground. They were exchanged for two paintings with Paul Gauguin. In his letters, we learn how his adaptation to sunflowers in a vase was made to impress Gauguin even though he wanted it to be said that he did not care for his opinion.
One might think it's quite a paradox; however, paradoxes seem to go hand in hand with van Gogh's art, as a man tortured by crippling mental health and self-harming ideas painted vivid, colourful, and joyful paintings.
Vincent van Gogh
There are few artists in history whose name comes with so many stories and legends like Vincent van Gogh.
However, the career of the legendary impressionist artist was not always an obvious and clear path; he had many different jobs, such as an art dealer and a preacher, until he eventually decided to dedicate his life to his art.
Never truly recognised for his importance during his lifetime, Van Gogh still always had one supporter in his corner, and that would be his brother Theo van Gogh; he was the one financing Vincent van Gogh’s career and living expenses.
If the saying ‘’Tortured Genuis’’ was a person, it would be Vincent van Gogh. He spent time in mental hospitals and institutions for his struggling mental health and eventually took his own life. However, one must never forget that through his struggling times, Van Gogh created some of the most stunning paintings the world has ever seen, and his works will forever bring joy to those getting the pleasure to explore them.
