About The Artwork
''La Source Du Mal'' is a work that is drastically different from de Feure's other works; usually, he creates works with decorative motives of women in his prints. However, with this work that has a title that translates to ''The source of evil'' we are presented with explosive colours and less defined motives. Despite how different it is from de Feure's typical work, it gives us a colourful and lively print that shines bright.

Georges de Feure
He was born in Paris, but the name he was given by his Dutch father and Belgian mother was not Georges de Feure, but it was Georges Joseph van Sluijters. At age 20, de Feure was one of eleven students admitted to the prestigious art academy Rijkscademie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam. However, his stint there was very short, and he never completed his studies as he considered himself a very independent person and did not believe that formal art education had anything to give him.

His independent nature made him create his own path in the artistic world; however, he was influenced by French artists such Jules Chéret, who also specilised in creating decorative art posters like de Feure.

de Feure dedicated his artistic life to the decorative arts and theatre design; however, the success and appreciation of his works did not come until after his death as he died at the age of 75 while living in poverty.
