About The Artwork
Alfred Stieglitz and his wife Georgia O’Keeffe had a summer house in New York close to Lake George. They spent their summers there, disconnecting from the intense city to focus on their creativity and nurture relationships. One was with their friends Paul Strand the photographer, and his wife, Rebecca Salsbury Strand.
The Strand's visited Stieglitz and O'Keeffe for six weeks; during that time, Stieglitz made Rebecca the subject of his intense, open, and intimate photographs that have stood the test of time and are still showing us the brilliance of Stieglitz photographs.

Today, photography is widely considered and accepted as an art form, but that was not always the case. With photography's role and influence in the art world, we can thank Mr. Alfred Stieglitz as he dedicated his 50-year-long career to enhancing photography's role in the modern art world.
However, his influence reached beyond photography as the galleries he ran in New York played an important role in introducing America to the new wave of European artists and their unique styles at the beginning of the 20th century.
Fun Fact, he was married to the American artist Georgia O'Keeffe.
