About The Artwork
Colour woodblock print, triptych. Princess Takiyasha summons a skeleton ghost to terrorize Oya Taro Mitsukuni's father Taira Masakado at Soma's ruined palace. Mitsukuni fights off Araimaru by sitting on Araimaru’s sword and subduing the latter with a scabbard. Signed, sealed and marked.
Utagawa Kuniyoshi 歌川国芳
Student of Utagawa Toyokuni. Kuniyoshi was one of three 'Ukiyo artists from the late Edo period. He is also known for his prints of warriors and bizarre subjects. Fine Western-style landscape prints were also produced by him in the 1830s and 40s. Kuniyoshi was a man of great imagination who produced an endless stream of innovative ideas. He was a vital energy source for the late 'Ukiyo' world.
