Artists Description
This picture was taken in Bali. I was wandering around the coastline, and suddenly this incredible view came up - a monkey sitting in a tree against the dramatic sunset.
Ilvy Kokomo
Ilvy started her creative career as a model at the age of 17. Working in the modeling industry and being photographed by hundreds of photographers, she developed an eye for photography before she even picked up her first camera. So it felt natural for her to begin photographing at 23. She had a natural eye for framing, lighting, and composition.
She quickly developed her own style and started doing more and more photography while traveling. Her first model was herself and nature, so she created her style in two directions. In contrast, the first direction is photographing people, emphasizing everyone's unique sensuality, and the second is photographing nature, highlighting the connection to our inner selves.
Soon after, Ilvy found photography healing and therapeutic, so she studied for a Master's degree in art therapy. Now she is a certified art therapist, implementing phototherapy techniques when working with her clients in private practice. Ilvy strongly believes that photographing is a meditative process that helps us to be more self-aware, as we are in the "here and now" process, enjoying the moment, the current emotion. Later on, these photographs are like totalizators for the feelings that were felt during the photographing process.
Ilvy describes that one photograph can contain thousands and thousands of words, but this language is light, composition, subjects, and framing. Therefore, when a person is viewing a photograph, they build their own projection of what is in the picture based on their own experience, emotions, and values.
Photography is a slow, complicated process with unexpected twists and turns. In that sense, it's a lot like life.
