About The Artwork
This artwork is known in English as ''Thirty.'' This is Kandinsky's "Great Synthesis" period. He actively and pointedly took inspiration from his life and his progress as an artist. This practice manifests itself in images within each square that vary wildly in style and presentation.

He was born in Moscow but eventually moved to Odesa in Ukraine, so his father could live close to the tea factory they owned. There, he learned how to play the piano, the cello and draw.
Since Kandinsky came from a wealthy family, his expectations were never artistic; rather, they wished for him to pursue a career as a lawyer, which he did when he moved back to Moscow to study law at the university there and eventually became an associate professor. A short while later, Kandinsky was offered to become a professor in Law at the university; however, he rejected the offer and decided to pursue his passion for painting full-time.
During his time as an artist, he lived in Münich, Moscow, and Paris, and today, his art is reaching far beyond the locations he spent time in, as his unique pioneering work of geometric abstraction was groundbreaking which came to shape and create a whole new style of abstract art.
